Jim is presenting on April 30th and May 1st at this annual conference in Athens of AGIFORS - a grouping of operational research experts in the airline industry.
His experience of working with airlines to reduce crew costs has highlighted how schedule design and crew efficiency are closely related. Practices such as overnight flying, for instance, can impose a significant additional crew cost which airlines often fail to recognise when looking at route financial performance.
Jim's presentation on the crew resource planning perspective provides some case studies of the interaction between schedule design and crew costs, roster patterns and fatigue risk management. He then identifies a number of guiding principles for crew-efficient schedule design, based on his experience in the low cost airline sector.
Jim is also running a mini-workshop where participants apply the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY approach to thinking about what makes a good schedule.
