Invenzyme launches UK Airline Pilot Productivity Monitor
January 2009

Invenzyme has launched the first in a series of publications analysing the productivity of aircrew. The UK Airline Pilot Productivity Monitor is the first public domain analysis of its kind, and highlights the signficant differences in unit pilot costs and hours flown, two of the key measure considered.

Invenzyme Director JIm Paton commented "Crew costs can represent around 15% of an airline's cost base, and are often the third or fourth most important cost and aircraft and fuel. However, the whole area of crew economics is highly complex, and you need to look at a range of metrics to get a balanced picture. The bottom line is that few airlines do this in practice, and tpart of the purpose behind our analysis is to highlight the potential for greater efficiency and continuous improvement in this area"

The UK Airline Pilot Productivity Monitor will be published annually, and draws on data collated by the UK's CAA from airlines themselves. Invenzyme hopes to add further airline monitors in due course.
